Speed Reading and Memory Coach
I studied to be a video game engineer. That was my dream job. It took me a year and a half to get that dream job because I was a slow reader, a slow learner. To be frank, I flunked fifth grade.
But now, for some reason, I teach people how to read, how to improve their memory. I'm considered a reading expert now. It's kind of crazy, but I've been doing this for three and a half years.
All Education Is Just Vocabulary
I want to encourage you. All education is is just vocabulary. I hit the books.
How does a doctor go get a PhD? He reads a lot. He or she reads a lot, and they write a lot. They don't get audiobooks of the textbook, of the difficult vernacular and all the linguistics and physics, the math. They get the textbook. They read the information.
Why Reading Remains the Best Learning Medium
Reading is one of still the best learning mediums, an analog learning medium that your brain loves. The information sticks, and you could reuse it and say it out loud.
There's a reason why listening to audiobooks doesn't work the same way. When you actively read, you're engaging with the material differently than when you passively listen.
A Slow Learner Can Still Become the Teacher
The path from struggling student to reading coach took time. A year and a half just to land that video game engineering job. But that struggle taught me something about how learning actually works.
When you understand what blocks comprehension, you can help others overcome those same barriers. The information sticks when you read it. You can reuse it. You can say it out loud. That's what makes reading different from any other way of taking in information.
